Now this isnt your typical black forest gateau recipe, but a slightly modified more simplified version of it. In all my cooking, i hate complications. And that rule is with everything. I will always mess around with recipes, til I find the tastiest and simplest recipe.
Preheat oven to Gas Mark 4. prepare your tin (lightly grease it).
For this recipe you will need to
8oz of butter
8oz of sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tbsp coco powder
2 tbsp milk
Dream whip/whipped cream
cherries (glace or fresh) OR a can of cherry pie filling
chocolate (for grating)
chocolate spread (hazel nut or any chocolate nut spread) - optional
In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar. whisk in the eggs one by one. Sieve flour and baking powder and mix ( I usually use an electric mixer). Add in the coco powder followed by milk and mix altogether.
Pour into your prepared tin and place in the middle rack, and bake for approximately 40 minutes. You will know its ready by placing a sharp knife through the center. If it comes out clean, then it is ready, if it is still wet, then leave in the oven til the knife comes out clean. When it is ready leave it to cool completely.
While it is cooling, whip up your dream whip, or fresh whipping cream. Leave it in the fridge til you are ready to use it.
When cake is ready and cooled, cut it in half length-ways. spread one half with chocolate spread. Put half the cream over it. Then lightly pour over the cherry pie filling, or fresh cherries over the cream. You want to sandwich the two halves together, so put the other half over it. decorate the top by spreading the remaining cream mix, arranging a few cherries around the edge of the cake, and opping with some grated chocolate.
